Setting Up the Gradebook

Because each Gradebook is connected to a Course, you will need to go into your Course options to determine how your Gradebook will behave.

Configuring Your Grading Options

Because each Gradebook is connected to a Course, you will need to go edit your Course options to determine how your Gradebook will operate. In Course options, select the Grading tab. Here you will determine how your Gradebook scores are calculated. In this section, you can configure options for:

  • Grade weighting. Select No if you do not want to weight your scores. All activities within your course will be weighted evenly. You may choose to exclude Activity Types by unchecking boxes on the right-hand side of the screen. Select Yes if you do want to weight your scores. Make sure your score weights add up to 100%.
  • Tested out activities. This option only impacts your scores if you plan on using assessments in your course.
Select No if you want to ignore activity scores when your student has mastered and skipped those activities (for example, If your student received a 92% on fractions in an assessment and the mastery score was set at 70%, then the Gradebook will ignore all fractions activities for that student.) Select Yes if you want to use activity scores when your student has mastered and skipped those activities (for example, If your student received a 92% on fractions in an assessment and the mastery score was set at 70%, the Gradebook will pull the 92% in for any course activities that correspond to fractions.)
  • Repeated activities. Select Use Average if you want to use the average score when activities are repeated. Select Use Highest if you want to use the highest score. Select Drop Lowest if you want to drop the lowest score and use the average of the remaining scores.Select Most Recent if you want to use the most recent score.
  • Letter grades. Select No if you do not want to use letter grades. Select Yes if you want to associate your numerical grades with letter grades.

The activities listed at the right side of the page are all elements that you can choose to include in, or exclude from, your grading process. Check the Include box to include an activity and un-check it (click the box so the check mark disappears) to exclude an activity.
